Safe on sidepaths?

The discontinuing of bicycle crash counts in Berlin

The collection of additional data by the police was not continued. In offical German reports on crash statistics, no distinction is made as to whether a bicyclist was riding on a sidepath or on the roadway. Anyone who wants to make that distinction must collect additional data. The Berlin police did that, perhaps in order to demonstrate how safe sidepaths in Berlin were. When the desired outcome did not occur, no more data were collected.

Die Statistik, die die Polizei erhoben hat, wurde nicht mehr fortgeführt. Verkehrsunfülle werden in der offiziellen deutschen Unfallstatistik nicht danach unterschieden, ob der Radfahrer auf einem Radweg oder der Fahrbahn gefahren ist. Wenn man das unterscheiden will, mu� man eine besondere Statistik f�hren. Das hat die Berliner Polizei gemacht, vielleicht um nachzuweisen, wie sicher Radwege in Berlin sind. Als nicht das erw�nschte Ergebnis kam, haben sie nicht mehr weiter gemacht.
