Note the rust around the broken carbon-fiber steerer tube. This is the flange at the lower end of a steel sleeve which supported the press-fit fork-crown bearing race. The compression of the thin-walled sleeve by the race, and the stress raiser at ithe transition to the flange led to failure of the sleeve and then of the steerer.
