Mandatory barrier-separated bike lane. The barrier is wide enough to provide protection against partial opening of car doors, but the curbs on both sides of this narrow lane pose the serious risk of a diversion-type fall and make it unsafe for one bicyclist to overtake another here -- speed is established by the slowest bicyclist. The transition between asphalt and the concrete gutter pan is smooth now, but also could post a diversion-fall hazard as it deteriorates over the years. The next photo was taken a few seconds later.
