On roadway despite path

Bicycling on the roadway is common on Greenough Boulevard -- the faster bicyclists prefer the roadway to the path. In this 2003 photo looking eastbound closer to the Eliot Bridge, the advantages of riding on the roadway shoulder are clear: ample width, no oncoming traffic, no overhanging vegetation, no lampposts, no puddles. But slower and less confident bicyclists, and pedestrians, use the path.
