A new phenomenon in the USA as of 2008 is the "Euro-chic" bike shop, which carries a stock rather different from that of typical bike shops in the USA. This kind of shop is targeted toward urban cyclists who are taken up with the idea that all cycling things European must be best. (But note: things European tend to be more expensive than things Chinese...) I visited this shop on East Hawthorne Boulevard in Portland to buy a local bicycle route map. The shop didn't have any, but perhaps that was because of a supply problem. The shop's Web site suggests that the products it stocks tend more toward the practical than what I saw on the sales floor in September, 2008. Read on...
