A good reason for the warnings: this bicyclist exits the tunnel in the middle of the Rail Trail. In 2005, Daniel O'Brien of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation reported that the Rail Trail at the other end of the tunnel was slated for reconstruction to alleviate the sight-line problem. He indicated that a similar improvement was not practical for this end, however, because the property owner would not grant an easement and the Commonwealth would not assert its powers of eminent domain.
