Nashbar pedal

This Nashbar Z17 Ti Road pedal failed when the titanium spindle broke after about 4000 miles of use by a strong rider. Note the sudden decrease in diameter -- a stress raiser -- immediately to the right of the break. Titanium is weaker than steel, the usual material for pedal spindles -- but this spindle was dimensioned like a steel spindle. I thnk Bruce Ingle for the loan of this pedal. He did not notice anything unusual until the pedal suddenly came apart.
Fortunately, he was not seriously injured, but he did have to replace his helmet.
