TA Professional 3-arm crankset with double chainwheels -- custom-made steel 72T scavenged from the 1960s Moulton Deluxe, and TA aluminum 44T (Sheldon says 47T, maybe it was at an earlier stage). Some adaptation has been made to fit a square-taper axle to the Raleigh bottom bracket -- see the advice here under the heading "Upgrading to Cotterless Cranks". The MKS Esquartz 107 platform pedals, similar to Shimano 600 pedals, are fitted out with toeclips and straps -- Sheldon favored platform pedals until he went over to Shimano SPD. A long-cage Huret front derailleur is mounted with shims to a rear-rack brace of the frame. The derailleur must be mounted there rather than on the seat tube because the chain slopes down from the large chainwheel to the small rear wheel.
