Farther east, the path runs behind a guardrail. The width of the path was taken from the road shoulder. In this photo taken in 1982, shortly after the path was constructed, no shoulder remains on the roadway and bicyclists must ride in the travel lane. The path is no wonder either, with the low guardrail on the road side, lampposts intruding into its width and overhanging vegetation.
