Shock absorbers, sharp edges
|

|
The guardrail has blocks of shock-absorbing material on the road side. These increase the width of the guardrail by several inches, encroaching on the roadway and sidewalk. The wooden railing on the sidewalk side does not completely reach the top of the sharp I-beams. with the narrow lanes of the roadway, bicyclists are likely to ride on the sidewalk. The railing also is low, so bicyclists are at risk of toppling over it into the roadway. Also see Dick Miller's comments and photo. The ends of the wooden railings have been aligned since he took his photo, but other problems remain.
