Just west of Thompson Street, the bikeway begins as a bike lane, where construction shifts it to the left. The dashed striping is as used in Europe for an "advisory bike lane" -- not mandatory, and motorists may encroach into it, necessary here because the total width is too little to avoid encroachment.
