Between Chrystie and Forsyth
For this one block, the bikeway changes into a bike lane in the door zone, with a buffer between it and the travel lane for motorists. To avoid opening car doors, bicyclists need to ride at the extreme left side of the bike lane. Faster bicyclists must overtake unlawfully in the striped area.

Ciccarelli: Why not place the buffer in the door zone, and the bike lane to its left? Probably because Manhattan motorists would then use the bike lane as a double-parking zone. (Speculation, not checked with NYC DOT staff.)
