The Highway Department is to be commended for having replaced a hazardous parallel-bar drain grate at this location -- but unfortunately created another hazard. The roadway here -- on a blind right curve -- is plenty wide to allow for a rideable shoulder or bike lane, but the edge stripe has been placed close to the curb, and the markers in slots are in a bicyclists' preferred line of travel. The slots would have to be filled in at considerable expense to create the improved conditions for bicycling that ought to have been designed into this project -- at no extra construction cost -- in the first place.

The extensive and expensive repaving project did not include any work on the sidewalk, which was in much worse condition than the roadway. And then there's the guardrail, located behind the sidewalk...
